Lion’s Cancer Institute Donation
Last year, through its Community Chest program, Merredin IGA proudly contributed to the Lion’s Cancer Institute (WA) Inc. Christmas Big Day Out, a heartwarming initiative providing a much-needed day of joy for children from the Wheatbelt region undergoing treatment in Perth hospitals.
The event offered children facing cancer, terminal illnesses, and special needs a rare opportunity to step away from their hospital environment and enjoy a festive outing. Participants were treated to a complimentary screening of the movie Paddington, along with free refreshments, including drinks, ice cream, and lollies. A highlight of the day was a special visit from Santa Claus, who gave away gifts to the children and their carers, ensuring lasting memories for all involved.
The Lions Cancer Institute expressed their gratitude in a statement:
"Christmas Big Day Out was a fun time for all those involved. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the Australian business community, the Lions Cancer Institute (WA) Inc. were able to provide another Big Day Out for disadvantaged children.
A free preview of the movie 'Paddington,' plus free drinks, ice cream, lollies, and a special visit from Santa with gifts for the boys and girls were all part of the day for these special children and their carers.
Thanks also go to the Board Members and Institute friends for the time they put in to make the day a success."
Merredin IGA, under the management of IRAM, is honoured to support initiatives like the Christmas Big Day Out, which bring moments of happiness and relief to families navigating challenging circumstances. This donation is part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the Local Wheatbelt community it serves.
