Tennant Creek BP is getting a major upgrade starting late September

The project:

A major upgrade of the Tennant Creek BP Service Station is set to begin at the end of September, led by Darwin-based M&J Builders.

Over the next three months, the service station will see a modernised toilet and ablutions area, ceiling repairs, and enhanced security measures. Despite the construction, BP will remain operational 24/7, with temporary facilities in place, and minimised disruptions to services.

The project aims to improve customer experience and safety, while providing jobs for local contractors.

Media Release

A major upgrade of the Tennant Creek BP Service Station will start at the end of September and take about three months, the CEO of IBA Retail Asset Management (IRAM) John Kop announced today.

Mr Kop announced that Darwin company M&J builders has been awarded the contract to refurbish the BP restroom area and toilets, replace much of the ceiling and upgrade security at the service station.

“We will keep disruption to a minimum during the rebuild and ensure fuel continues to be available 24 hours a day,” Mr Kop said.

The works include:

·       the restrooms area, including toilets, will be stripped down and modernised with new amenities

·       replacement of the damaged ceiling over the trading area

·       upgraded security, including safety screens for staff.

“The most visible change will be the refurbished restroom and toilets area. This part of the service station is run down and a regular source of complaints from customers.

“During construction, we will locate temporary toilet facilities at the rear of the BP in the carpark,” Mr Kop said.

“There will be occasional short-term disruption to the trading area. We will provide advance notice of all works on our Facebook site,” Mr Kop said.

The construction works will reduce access to parts of the BP carpark for short periods.

“Our top priority during construction is the safety of our staff and customers, so we urge everyone to adhere to all safety warnings,” he said.

The work is scheduled to start at the end of September and be completed by the end of the year.

“Overall, the aim is better facilities for customers and staff and a better impression of Tennant Creek for visitors,” Mr Kop said.

FAQs

  • o   We expect occasional short-term disruption to parts of the shop floor. This could, for example, affect access to takeaway food or some of our grocery items for short periods.

o   M&J Builders will take account of busy periods when scheduling disruptive works.

o   We will coordinate between the BP Service Station and IGA to minimise inconvenience to customers seeking retail services.

o   We will provide regular updates on the BP Service Station and IGA Facebook pages.

  • o   IRAM wasn’t aware of the scheduling of this work when it issued tenders for the BP Service Station upgrade. We will liaise closely with the NT Government to minimise disruption. As management understands, most of the streetscape upgrade is occurring at the other side of the township.

  • o   We apologise in advance and will do our best to avoid congestion. For example, our management team will liaise between M&J Builders and suppliers to coordinate construction scheduling and the timing of large deliveries, such as fuel and freight.

o   The presence of construction equipment and the need for temporary toilet facilities will reduce access to the carpark. M&J Builders will have a traffic management plan covering vehicle movements in and out of the site.
